Our Most-Viewed Articles of 2022

As 2022 closes and a new year begins, we wanted to look back on the most-read articles published at GCD this year. Reading over these articles you can see the emphasis on the beauty of truth and the priority of the gospel. It excites me that our most popular article encouraged Christians to be people of God’s Word. Also, I notice intentionality to speak to a broad cross-section of life, from parenting children with disabilities to the meaning of repentance and from a Christian’s engagement with social media to God’s varied purposes in our suffering.

Our overall web traffic increased this year, as it did the year before that. So, thank you, Dear Reader, for reading our articles and sharing them with the world. We look forward to continuing our mission to “cultivate writers and resources that make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus.”

#10. “Are God and Satan Playing Chess with My Life?
Tim Shorey on Friday, June 24, 2022

In the midst of deep suffering, we have deep questions.

#9. “The Downside of Your Bible-Saturated Newsfeeds
Brianna Lambert on January 31, 2022

We’ve come a long way from the church in the second and third centuries where so many members could not own, let alone read, a copy of the Scriptures. Now, Bible commentaries flood in through radio, internet, podcasts, and television.

#8. “From Burden to Image Bearer: How God Changed My View of Children
Lainee Oliver on Monday, October 24, 2022

I used to see children as mainly a burden. But then God let some hard things happen and some wonderful things happen. And I changed.

#7. “We Remain Stagnant Under Unrepentance
Chrys Jones on Wednesday, September 14, 2022

Though the call to repentance can feel like a painful providence, it’s truly a gracious gift.

#6. “Social Anxiety and the God who Held Mary
        Lara d’Entremont on Wednesday, December 7, 2022

My husband reached over and held my hand. “We can go home. It’s up to you.” My heart raced in my chest as I looked up at the people pooling in through the open glass doors of our church. In that moment, my theology warred against my angst: My love for the local church versus my social anxiety.

#5. “Persistence in Unanswered Prayer
Johnathan Gerrits on Monday, May 2, 2022

We can take comfort that while we may feel our prayers are unanswered, no child of God has ever prayed a prayer that went unheard.

#4. “The American Dream Couldn’t Save My Marriage
Habtamu Sisay on September 19, 2022

I’m an immigrant from Ethiopia who found God’s favor, not in my prosperity but in God’s grace.

#3. “The Indispensable Ministry of Disability
Andrea Sanborn on Monday, July 18, 2022

Our more recent experiences with our adult child with Down Syndrome have opened my eyes to the realization that people with disabilities in our congregations are not just objects of ministry. They are gifted just like the rest of us.

#2. “When the Nest May Never Be Empty
Emily Pilkington on Friday, January 21, 2022

Begin with the end in mind,” we tell parents. And that end is often described as an empty nest and an independent child. But is that mantra more American than it is biblical?

#1. “Hearts Painted by the Word Again and Again
Courtney Yantes on Wednesday, October 5, 2022

While God’s Word is sharper than any two-edged sword, it also doubles as a paintbrush when held in the hand of the Master Painter.
