Have you ever been in the process of reading a book and started talking about it with someone else who was reading the same book? When that happens you immediately find a connection and common conversation on the book. In the same way, it can be equally frustrating to read a book and not have anyone to dialog with. While the book may challenge or help you, reading alone can often cause us to miss the full benefit of a resource. Even better would be the ability to talk with the author directly and see the book directly through their lens. If we’re honest, reading in community is the preferred way to read a book.
GCD’s mission has always been to produce resources that help make, mature, and multiply disciples of Jesus. As we continue to produce written content that seeks to fulfill this mission, we’ve also sensed that there is a space for building community around written content and to have a more direct place in everyday discipleship. As we considered what that space might look like and what would be most helpful given our influence, we’ve sensed an opportunity to bring readers and authors together in a discipleship context around these written books.
We’re excited to launch a new avenue of ministry this fall, the GCD Book Club. Every 13 weeks we will pick up a different book and read it together in community. Book Club members will enjoy a dynamic community of fellow readers where they can discuss, question, and work through the practical implications of Book Club reads. Furthermore, we’re bringing the authors into the conversation as well. Through exclusive podcasts, live hangouts, and other opportunities we’re seeking to develop an engaging, interactive community for discipleship together.
This Fall we’re excited to feature Trevin Wax and his latest book This Is Our Time: Everyday Myths in Light of the Gospel as our Book Club offering. Beginning the week of September 10, 2017 we will read through the book together, discuss the content through our private forum, and engage with Trevin about these myths that we so easily believe.
Sign-up for the GCD Book Club is open today through our Patreon page. By choosing the “GCD Book Club” tier you will be registered for our Fall (September to November) read and interaction. Membership is $10/month. If you’d like to support and be part of the ministry of GCD at a higher tier you can as well and will be automatically included in the Book Club community.
We believe that the context of vibrant discipleship is within community. Through reading and engaging in gospel-centered resources we are confident we can grow together in Christ. We’d love to have you join our community of authors and readers through the GCD Book Club.
